Collaborative Learning, Inc. and ACCESS Leadership are offering an engaging leadership development course focused on practical approaches to Coaching and Being Coached. The course is designed to help leaders, supervisors, and employees use coaching to strengthen performance, support employee development, and build organizational capacity.


The course combines presentation, reflection, discussion, Q&A, and application exercises. Participants examine both sides of the coaching relationship: how to coach others effectively and how to make productive use of coaching for their own development.

You will receive digital copies of the presentation materials in advance, allowing you to work with them before, during and after the online session. 

Participants completing this course will receive 3.5 Professional Development Hours (PDH).

COURSE OVERVIEW

This course presents coaching as a practical process for developing and empowering employees, sustaining organizations, and improving service to customers/clients and communities. Participants explore the purpose and value of coaching; the continuum from directing and advising through teaching, mentoring, and coaching; and the skills and behaviors that distinguish effective coaches. The course provides structured methods for addressing specific performance or behavior issues and for supporting broader employee-directed development. It also addresses listening, questioning, resistance, barriers to change, self-coaching, and the responsibilities of the person being coached.

COURSE TOPICS

  • The purpose and organizational value of coaching
  • Characteristics and core skills of an effective coach
  • The leadership continuum: directing, advising, teaching/training, mentoring, and coaching
  • Three levels of coaching and when each approach is appropriate
  • A structured eight-step process for coaching specific performance or behavior issues
  • Building rapport, defining the coaching process, and engaging the person being coached
  • Three levels of listening: content, meaning and impact, and global listening
  • Using open-ended and provocative questions to promote reflection and action
  • Identifying goals, supports, barriers, assumptions, and counter-goals
  • Reducing defensiveness and resistance while increasing ownership and accountability
  • Developing agreed-upon actions, commitments, follow-up, and alternative approaches
  • Self-coaching, peer coaching, and preparing to be coached
  • Application of coaching methods to current workplace situations

LEARNING METHODS

This course is highly interactive and applications oriented. Learning methods include focused presentations, facilitated discussion, participant reflection, polling questions, practical examples, structured coaching models, and exercises that ask participants to plan and apply coaching conversations to real work situations.

This course is intended for professionals and others who are responsible for developing people, improving performance, leading change, or contributing effectively to a coaching relationship, including:

Individual Early Registration price (by July 24) is $350

Group Registration price (-$25 per person) is $370 for any organization that registers three (3) or more people.

Group plus Early Registration price (by July 24) is $325 per person for any organization that registers three (3) or more people.

Each participant from a participating organization is required to be a paid registrant. No group viewing is permitted unless all participants are registered.  For larger group pricing, please contact us.

You must register by July 24, 2026 to receive the Early Registration DiscountCancellations are accepted if request is made at least 10 days prior to start of the course. Within 1-7 days or "no show", the full registration fee will be charged. When possible, please send a substitute instead of cancelling. We do not charge a fee for registrant substitutions.

Elizabeth L. (Betsy) Aylin, Ph.D.

Executive Management Consultant


Dr. Elizabeth (Betsy) Aylin is an executive coach and 
organizational consultant who helps leaders strengthen their organizations, develop high-performing teams, and lead successful change.


Betsy has more than 30 years of experience helping leaders develop their leadership capability, strengthen their organizations, develop high-performing teams, and lead transformational change. Her work spans public utilities, nonprofit organizations, and private industry, where she partners with executives to improve organizational effectiveness, leadership capability, workforce readiness, and strategic execution.

Drawing on experience as both an executive Human Resources leader and external consultant, Betsy has designed and led executive coaching, 360-degree feedback, leadership development, succession planning, and organizational change initiatives.
 

Betsy's coaching philosophy is grounded in collaboration, curiosity, and practical application. She partners with leaders to identify meaningful goals, leverage their strengths, and build the capabilities needed to navigate complex organizational challenges.  

Betsy’s clients include public utilities, such as Tuskegee (AL), Glendale (CA), Holland (MI), Muscatine (IA), Navajo Tribal Utility and the Pedernales Electric Cooperative.  Betsy has also worked with organizations in the construction.



Thomas L. DeBell, P.E.

Leadership Coach

Tom DeBell is a leadership coach, speaker, and trainer and a former utility executive, manager, and engineer with 34 years of experience in the utility industry.

After completing a successful 34-year tenure in the public utility sector, primarily at Riviera Utilities in Foley, Alabama, Tom founded a leadership training and coaching enterprise in August 2023 to focus on the development of effective leaders.


Throughout his tenure at Riviera Utilities, Tom held various pivotal roles, including engineer, senior manager, and ultimately, President/CEO. As a utility leader, Tom experienced firsthand the value of continuous growth and development and led the campaign for executive coaching within his organization. Drawing from a diverse network of resources, he facilitated developmental and coaching services for members of his executive team, fostering professional growth and organizational cohesion.


As a leadership coach, speaker, and trainer, Tom secured several coaching certifications as a John Maxwell Certified Leadership Team Member and DISC Consultant, a Full Focus Certified Pro, and a Six Types of Working Genius Certified Facilitator. These credentials, coupled with his bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, and his status as a registered professional engineer in Alabama, underscore his commitment to professional excellence and leadership development.
